The Silent Hunter
The Mirage Technical Poling Skiff, or TPS, was created for anglers who require the ultimate in efficiency, control and silent shallow-water movement.
The TPS is the personal creation of Ken Fickett, the president of Mirage Manufacturing. It represents the culmination of lessons learned from his more than 50 years of boat building expertise and a lifetime of shallow water angling experience.
Key elements of the boat's design address the specific needs of the modern flats fisherman. The light overall weight allows for easy poling and a high degree of control and maneuverability. An extremely shallow draft gives unprecedented access to prime flats, and the lack of a hard forward chine prevents bow slap that might spook an elusive target. On the way to and from the fishing grounds, TPS delivers an ideal combination of performance and economical operation. The hull can maintain an efficient 30 mph cruise with two anglers aboard when powered by a 30 hp outboard. The overall simplicity of design and low-maintenance configuration allow owners to focus on fishing rather than upkeep and repair, and the boat can be easily towed by a compact truck or full-sized car.
The innovative components of TPS draw on Mirage Manufacturing's 50-plus years of boat building expertise. It is constructed from a range of advanced materials that provide an unmatched combination of strength and durability. Hull and deck are fabricated with Innegra, a non-woven biaxial aramid cloth that combines the strength of Kevlar with superior fracture resistance. Mirage is the first boat builder to use this material in a large-scale product. Carbon-Innegra materials are vacuum bonded to high-density foam with premium resins. No wood is used in the construction, resulting in a boat that will deliver decades of service with virtually no maintenance, and withstand impacts that would crack or shatter conventional fiberglass laminates.
Because we are a custom builder, the TPS can be tailored to a customer's exact requirements. Choices include custom gelcoat colors, multiple non-skid and textured deck options, a range of poling platforms and casting decks, and control options for both tiller and side-console steering.
